Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Counterpoint (counterpoints.uk) collects and how it is used. We aim to collect as little as possible.

What we collect

• Display name & avatar/photo: chosen by you and stored in your own browser (local storage). They are sent to people you are matched with and may appear on the leaderboard.
• IP address: processed to operate the Service, enforce bans, and prevent abuse. It is visible to moderators and may be stored if you are banned or reported.
• Reports: if you or someone else submits a report, the report text, time, and reporter/target identifiers are logged so moderators can act on it.
• Leaderboard data: wins/debate counts tied to your device-generated profile ID, plus your name and avatar.

Video & audio

Live video and audio are peer-to-peer between participants and are not recorded or stored by us. When a direct connection isn't possible, media is relayed through a TURN server in transit but is not stored.

Cookies & local storage

We do not use advertising cookies. We use your browser's local storage to remember your profile (name, avatar, ID), your stats, and that you accepted the age/content warning.

Third parties

• Cloudflare — provides DNS, security, and proxying for the site; it processes connection metadata (including IP) to deliver and protect the Service.
• Email forwarding — if you contact us, your message and any email address you provide are sent to our admin inbox.

Data retention

Profile and stats live in your browser until you clear them. Report logs and ban records are kept on the server for moderation purposes and may be cleared periodically.

Your choices & rights

You can clear your local profile/stats any time via your browser settings. Depending on your location (e.g. UK/EU under GDPR), you may have rights to access or delete data we hold about you — contact us to make a request.
